POSITANO: Villa Treville

First time in Positano with a very glamorous entree - Villa Treville.

A former home of maestro Franco Zeffirelli has been turned into a hotel like no other. Hidden away from crowds of Positano yet offering the most exquisite views of the local bay, this gem of a place provides a perfectly secluded getaway on Costiera Amalfitana.

With only 16 bedrooms, it is perfectly homey yet with that hotel-room luxurious feel. The suites are full of light, bright colours and each with a unique set-up reminds throughout entire property of its charm and history.

Sea-facing spacious accommodations guarantee the best possible views and privacy while being completely unbothered by its serenity. This is the place to unwind and relax with no urge to be anywhere else, just here. Tucked on the cliff, it is hard to see the property from main entrance and hotel suggests arriving by boat to see Villa Treville in its full glory.

The food, like everywhere in Italy, is prepared with utmost care and attention to what’s local and in season. Each morning chefs in an open-plan kitchen would prepare breakfast up to your liking with a daily selection of fresh juices as well as ‘make your own blend’ from scratch. A special mention goes to ginger shots which staff offered even before your coffee order! And let’s not forget incredible gardens and ‘ortos’ where gardeners look after fresh produce on sweeping hills overlooking the sea which is then used in the kitchen.

In the evenings, when the lights get dimmer and the atmosphere even more romantic, the same area serves as a dinner set-up. Their in-house fine dining restaurant Maestro’s offers local and seasonal dishes including the most sensational lamb ravioli and a typical pasta alla Nerano, a speciality of the area which shouldn’t be missed!

The following day we stayed on the property to fully enjoy it. Started off with an energising workout session. As a big fan of active lifestyle, this session was an experience on its own. Their fully outdoor gym covered with pergola and overlooking the sea was just gorgeous! Think of soft drizzle and sound of crushing waves guiding you thorough your session… The gym offers everything from treadmills, bicycles, free weights and even a boxing bag which we had the pleasure to try as part of Muay Thai lesson! The only thing you would not find here were mirrors but who needs those in this set up?

The next activity was spa. Having had a great powerful workout, this really was a cherry on top! Steam room was followed by a consultation with the therapist to design the treatment according to ones needs. In my case, I enjoyed the holistic massage targeting legs due to all the running and hiking I did recently. It was beyond relaxing with the door open and sea breeze floating in. The whole experience ended up with a cup of tea and healthy snacks to refuel.

Since we had a bit of a drizzle in late October, the beach wasn’t really ideal. However, this allowed for a full immersion in the room facilities. The suite we stayed in was nothing short of gorgeous! Spacious and airy, with Positano patterned ceramic tiles and postcard-perfect outdoor patio; undoubtedly one of the most secluded and romantic places I had the pleasure to experience.

Late afternoon was all about sampling more of local goodness in form of wine, cheese and perfectly paired bites together with sommelier and chefs musing on all things delicious. The fact that whole experience took place in the kitchen made it ultimately homey and genuine experience.

After another great meal, we made our way to hotel’s Bianca Bar - an Arabian-inspired space with own lab for cocktails fan!

Staff were overly attentive and always just a Whatsapp text away. After just a couple of days, it felt like you are saying goodbye to your new friends, not just another hotel experience. The uniqueness of this place is simple out of this world and safe to say it will be incredibly hard to beat this stay!

Above is an opinionated review from my recent stay. Also worth noting:

  • Ideal for honeymooners and couples looking for absolute privacy.

  • I stayed at one of their signature suite called The Callas.

  • Seasonal property, open from approx April - October.
